Teeth, the alias of Helsinki-based producer Matti Pentikäinen, was born in a vacuum, just like his music. Like the work of most innovative artists, it has been developed in a context it didn’t seem to fit in. Until everything changed.

With a vast musical background, Teeth’s library of influences has been building ever since the early 90s, when his musical career started as a leftfield rapper. This became a career of experimentation in both word and sound, adding heavy influences of electronica, dub, house and techno.

In the mid-00's he progressed, quite naturally, to embrace a dubstep template, which became essential in creating his musical concept utilising the previous influences. And before long, the stripped down and techno influenced 130-140 bpm rhythms began incorporating a garage swing, taking this music to a direction of constant alteration and build-ups. This infection gave the sound accessibility and the characteristics required to create an impact on a Saturday night dance floor.

And in no time at all, the world started catching up, giving Teeth more fire and determination, with seminal performances for example at The Boiler Room and the 6th birthday of DMZ in London. In 2011, it all makes perfect sense. The vacuum has erupted, as a new breed of bass music has emerged right out of the middle.

With support from DJs such as Benji B, Ben UFO, Blackdown, Desto, Martelo, Oneman, Pearson Sound and Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team, and forthcoming releases on 502, Noppa and Ramp, Teeth has just started.
